Practitioners

Each practitioner in your office should be assigned a practitioner number. This number is used to assign credit for work performed. It displays next to each transaction on Daysheets, Family Ledgers, etc..

Certain financial reports (such as the Production Summary) can be run for a specific practitioner or the practice as a whole.

If a report is run for the entire practice, the Company Name, as entered in the Business Description, is printed at the top of the report. If a report is run for a specific practitioner, his name, as entered on the practitioner record, is printed at the top of the report.

To avoid confusion when reviewing reports, no practitioner name should be exactly the same as the Company Name. For example, if the Company Name is Joe Dentist DDS, you can enter the practitioner name as Joe Dentist only.

Although these features were designed to help you track practitioner productivity, you can assign a practitioner number to anything for which you would like to monitor production (referral sources, preferred patient plans, etc). You can enter up to 99 practitioners.

To track production for multiple practitioners AND multiple other sources, you can produce reports for practitioners with a specific number in the 1's or 10's column.

For example, you can set up your practitioner list to look something like this:

01Dr. Jones
02Dr. Jonespreferred plan
03Dr. Jonesyellow pages
11Dr. Smith
12Dr. Smithpreferred plan
13Dr. Smithyellow pages
When you run a report and the system prompts for the practitioner number:
To run the report for:Enter:Since:
Dr. Smith0?His numbers start with 0
Dr. Jones1?His numbers start with 1
Preferred plans?2Its numbers end with 2
Yellow pages?3Its numbers end with 3
The entire practice??You want all numbers
NOTE: ? tells the system to include practitioner numbers with any number in this position.

In summary, there are three points you need to consider when creating your practitioner list:

  1. You only need to create a practitioner list if you want to monitor production for something other than the entire practice, or if you need to create insurance claims for more than one doctor.
  2. You can create practitioner numbers to monitor production for non-practitioners (yellow pages, preferred plans, etc.).
  3. You can create a practitioner list such as the one in the previous example if you want to monitor production for multiple practitioners AND multiple other sources.

When you have decided how you would like to set up your practitioner list,

  1. Select Practitioners and then select Edit. A numerical list of the existing practitioners will be displayed on the screen.
  2. Click Insert while viewing the list to add a practitioner. Click here for a detailed explanation of the contents of a practitioner record.
